Hey all…i missed blogging yesterday..Actually we had been to attend the world-famous Ratha Yatra of Lord Jagannath held here in Tokyo at Yokohama. It is actually such a blessed feeling that our state …our homeland has been able to make a difference in a place so distant and away…basically because quite some people from Odisha are now settled over here. But yesterday we found not only Oriyas but Indians from every state and with them local Japanese too lost in the hymns and prayers and the chanting of Lord Jagannath.Once again we found people coming together irrespective of language, nation caste n creed n race..drawn towards, enveloped by and lost in the Divine.
In our homeland..this festival is held at a very massive scale with 3 Chariots, one Chariot each of Lord Jagannath ,His elder brother Lord Balabhadra and Their younger sister Goddess Subhadra..thronged around and prayfully pulled from Puri Sree Mandira to Gundicha Temple i.e. Lord Jagannath’s aunt’s place. The 2 Brothers alongwith their Darling sister visit their aunt’s place once a year in this grand procession..wherein millions of devotees participate. This year i.e.2010, around 20 lakh people made it to Puri to be a part of this Divine trip !!
Yesterday,we reached the venue,Yamashita Park,Yokohama at around 2.10 pm and were blessed to be able to pull the rope of the Ratha..
The procession went till ‘The Drinking Fountain’ (the monument built in memorial of the Indians lost in the 1923 Tokyo earthquake) and from there back till the starting point in a span of about 2 hours.
Also after the procession we were delighted to savour the Prasada, made from yoghurt cottage cheese milk and fruits like banana and apple..and the taste was simply Divine !! Just like as made back home!!Also remarkable was some brilliant Japanese traditional drum beating performances and Odissi dance performance native to our home state Odisha 🙂 🙂
