Otaru is a small harbor town about half an hour by train from Sapporo,Hokkaido.Every February, during the time of the Sapporo Snow Festival, there is a Snow Light Path Festival (Otaru Yuki Akari no Michi) held in this beautiful town of Otaru wherein lovely snow lamps and sculptures are built near the canal area. The glistening lamps along with the white snow makes for a scintillating view.We reached Otrau around 5pm and stayed overnight at the Grand Park Hotel. There was a bus right in front of the hotel that took us straight to the festival location near the canal side .It was quite a walkable stretch and a lovely atmosphere…with an amazing view ! The snow lamps kind of added the warmth and coziness in the freezing cold of -6 deg celsius. Here are some freezed moments of the glowing event.

Brilliant photos… and I’ve not experienced Otaru in winter like that. Once again, gotta get back there in winter-time! Thanks so much for sharing your great experiences. The Japanese certainly have got a handle on how to do illuminations at night… especially when you throw in a whole world full of snow and ice. Anyway, at -6degrees, you were most probably lucky (hope you bought some good warm clothes, though it sounds like it’s been cold in Tokyo this year too).
Thanks Ben..yeah this year round it’s chilly in Tokyo and -6 deg @Otaru became manageable thankfully
Am so glad that u enjoyed the snaps and once again Thanks a lot for all ur help and suggestions
NIce to hear from u ! Have a great weekend ! Cheers !
Great clicks! I’m loving this blog already.
Here’s an idea- I’ve read quite a lot about interesting things in Japan. Like Pepsi white (yogurt flavored), several varieties of Kit-Kat, Ikizukuri.. things that are not available anywhere else, not just the food, but all the weird stuff. How about a post on that?
Hey Ankesh thank u so much for stopping by and actually sharing ur thoughts ! That’s a great idea for a post and i would love to take it up but have u visited my tokyotreat page/blog yet? It is dedicated to the food in tokyo…have a look…maybe u find something interesting there
